Your Competitor Isn't Another Brand. It's Everything on Your Customer's Feed.

You think you're competing with the brand down the road. You're not.
Your customer opens Instagram. In ten seconds, they see a friend's vacation, a cricket clip, a funny Reel, a news alert, and then your ad. Your real competition just ran from a cousin's wedding photos to a dancing cat.
Attention is the only currency now. And everybody is fighting for it.
What this changes
Being better than your competitor isn't enough. You have to be more interesting than everything else on that screen. That's a much harder bar.
A polished post with a logo and a discount? Scrolled past. It looks like an ad, so the brain treats it like one.
What actually stops the scroll
We've tested a lot of creative for clients. The stuff that holds attention usually does a few simple things:
It opens with a real hook in the first second. A question, a surprise, a problem the person actually has.
It feels native. Shot like a normal post, not a commercial.
It gives something back. A tip, a laugh, a "huh, I didn't know that."
It talks like a person, not a company.
Nobody scrolls to see your brand. They scroll to feel something or learn something. Give them that first, and the sale gets easier.
What to stop doing
Stop judging your content against competitor pages. Judge it against what your customer actually watches. If your video wouldn't survive next to a good Reel, it won't survive in the feed.
Where to start
Open your own feed for ten minutes. Notice what makes you stop. Notice what you skip without thinking. Then look at your last five posts honestly.
Which ones would you have stopped for?
Win the feed first. Then win the customer.
